Campaigning for January 23 elections continues
Date Added: 03 January 2022

The campaigning leading to the January 23 elections is continuing.

A total of 400 candidates from eight parties and three independent candidates contesting in the election presented their election slogans and manifestos.

The economy seems to be the leading topic the parties and candidates vow to address if and when they are elected.

Most parties are opting to campaign on social media rather than holding mass election rallies as they did in the past.

Meanwhile, the Higher Electoral Council announced a number of measures to be implemented throughout the election period in line with the recommendations of the Higher Committee for Infectious Diseases.

Only fully vaccinated individuals who have carried out a PCR or rapid test in the last 14 days will be allowed to attend rallies and other election events held indoors.

Unvaccinated persons will not be allowed to enter such places.

A maximum number of 150 persons can attend campaign rallies and meetings held outdoors.

Practising social distancing and wearing face masks is mandatory.
