Capacity will be increased at Güzelyurt Sewage Treatment Facility

Work which is aimed at increasing the capacity of the Güzelyurt Sewage Treatment Facility has begun.

Within this framework, a groundbreaking ceremony was held on Wednesday morning.

The project is expected to be completed within 15 months.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Sewage Treatment Facility in Güzelyurt, Project Advisor Mehmet Naci provided information about the project.

Addressing the event on behalf of the European Union, Kjartan Björnsson explained that the aim of the project was to prevent waste water from polluting underground waters and protect the environment.

He also added that the aim was to finalize the work within 15 months.

Also speaking on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Project Manager Alexandre Prieto noted that increasing the capacity was important for the increase in population in the Güzelyurt area.

Prieto also stressed that the UNDP will continue to support the development of infrastructure in urban and rural areas.

The Mayor of Güzelyurt Mahmut Özçınar for his part said that the project includes protecting the environment, production and recycling adding that the project is important for the region.
