Civil Defence, Disaster Management and Intervention Exercise

The “Civil Defence, Disaster Management and Intervention Exercise-2022” which was organized by the TRNC Civil Defence Organization was conducted in the Metehan area in the capital Lefkoşa on Thursday.

President Ersin Tatar also attended the exercise.

The aim of the drill was to test the readiness level of all units within the Disaster Emergency Management System in the country, further develop cooperation and coordination and raise awareness for disasters and emergencies as well as to fill the deficiencies through increasing cooperation between the institutions and organizations.

Speaking at the event, the District Governor of Lefkoşa Bora Akkuş said that conducting such an exercise in the capital was important for Lefkoşa to be prepared for disasters.

The Director of the TRNC Civil Defence Organization Atilla Karaca for his part stressed that as the Civil Defence Organization which is an important unit within the TRNC disaster management system they were working towards further strengthening their potential to intervene any possible incidents in the country.

Expressing the need to be prepared for natural disasters, Karaca noted that Turkiye was the biggest supporter of the TRNC in disasters as in all other matters.

Also speaking after the completion of the exercise, President Ersin Tatar thanked all institutions and organizations which contributed to the exercise.

“We tested our capacity of strength for protecting the public against natural disasters and being prepared to respond to any disaster in coordination. We saw and feel proud that we can be coordinated” Tatar said.

“We feel strong to have the capacity to monitor the whole area through our technological potential” he added.

In his speech, President Tatar also expressed his gratitude to the Turkish Armed Forces for their contributions.
