President Ersin Tatar attended a commemoration and medal ceremony held at the TMT Fighters’ Association on the occasion of the 39th anniversary of retired Major General Daniş Karabelen who gave the order for the establishment of the Turkish Resistance Organization (TMT).

Speaking at the event, Tatar reminded that Daniş Karabelen served as the Head of the Special Warfare Department adding that Karabelen and his comrades waged a great struggle for the Cyprus cause.

He said that the struggle given on the island for years was stepped up with the order given by Karabelen for the establishment of the TMT enabling Turkish Cypriots on the island to organise politically.

Stating that the Turkish Cypriot people were able to resist against EOKA and the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo, he said the arrival of the Turkish Army on the island was a turning point which brought freedom to the Turkish Cypriots.

Stressing that the state will be claimed until the very end, the President said the TRNC will continue its existence in the Eastern Mediterranean with Turkiye.

Commemorating Daniş Karabelen and all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives, Tatar presented national struggle medals to the fighters who served the TMT.
