Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez noted that the natural gas works carried out in the Mediterranean continue within the framework of the prepared work plan.

Speaking at a press conference on the new natural gas discovery announced by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Minister Dönmez said, “Everyone living on the island of Cyprus has the right to benefit from those resources. We consider that the actions to be taken by ignoring one side are not fair.”

Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez also touched upon the natural gas studies carried out in the Mediterranean during the press conference held on the details of the new natural gas discovery.

He said that the Abdülhamid Han Drilling Ship had completed its work at the Yörükler-1 well and continued its work at the 2nd location off Taşucu, Mersin.

“As we have said before, we have stated that we will continue exploration and drilling activities in our own continental shelf, within our jurisdiction. This process continues within the framework of a work plan there,” Dönmez stressed.

Referring to the gas discovery in the 6th block of the so-called Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), which was declared unilaterally by the Greek Cypriot Administration of South Cyprus, the Turkish Energy Minister reminded that Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) had made the necessary explanations in this regard.

“Everyone living on the island of Cyprus has the right to benefit from those resources. We consider that the actions taken by ignoring one side are not fair. In this context, the rights and interests of our compatriots living in North Cyprus should be protected,” Dönmez added.
