The election prohibitions for the upcoming local elections which will be held on Sunday December 25 has come into force.

The ban marks the start of the countdown to the elections to elect mayors, municipal councils and mukhtars to the TRNC’s 18 municipalities.

Applications of candidates running in the local elections will be accepted on Monday November 28, while the final approved list of candidates will be announced on Sunday, December 4.

The propaganda process for all candidates contesting in the election will begin on Monday, December 5.

According to the ban in force, the appointment and hiring of personnel to government or public offices, the inauguration by public officials or candidates of any public facility or enterprise, holding or carrying out foundation laying ceremonies of public buildings or infrastructure, delivering speeches at such events and broadcasting any of the above is strictly prohibited.

The election bans will continue until the end of voting on Sunday, December 25.
