Health Minister Ünal Üstel has reiterated the importance of getting vaccinated against the deadly Coronavirus.

Speaking on a program on Thursday, Üstel pointed out that the number of unvaccinated patients being treated at the Emergency Hospital was proof that the vaccines worked and why it was important to get inoculated.

Stating that 80 per cent of patients currently receiving treatment in the hospital were unvaccinated, Minister Üstel called on the public to get the jab, abide by the measures in place, continue wearing masks and maintain social distancing.

He said that adhering to the Covid-19 measures was important as the winter months were approaching and more time would be spent indoors.

Üstel also praised his teams and health officials who were working round the clock to ensure that patients were receiving adequate treatment.

Pointing out that daily test figures had increased since he was appointed to the post of health minister, Üstel said that getting vaccinated against Covid-19 was particularly important because of the highly transmissible Delta variant.

“We are entering the second year of the pandemic that has gripped the world. The Delta variant is more transmissible. We need to learn to live with the measures in place against Covid-19. We have a sufficient amount of vaccines at hand, thanks to the support by Turkey,” he said.

Üstel also ruled out the possibility of entering a new lockdown.

Touching upon the implementation of the AdaPass (safe pass), Üstel said that passengers arriving from abroad will be able to enter the TRNC once they have filled online forms to obtain an AdaPass.
