Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Wednesday that they will boost efforts for the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) should the UN Security Council acts fairly.

He expressed the view that something will come out of the Security Council.

Speaking on a programme, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that the Turkish Cypriot side was ready to sit at the negotiating table as and when its vested sovereign rights stemming from the 1960 agreements were recognized.

“Of course it is up to the UN Security Council to establish this balance. We can speed up this process if the Security Council acts fairly because I believe we will obtain a result,” he said.

Erdoğan also complained that they had not seen an affirmative action from the Security Council over the past year for the recognition of the Turkish Cypriot people’s sovereign equality and equal international status.

“This is a preparatory phase. All our institutions and organisations will be working to back up our call for the recognition of the TRNC. I believe that the international community must open the way for a solution in Cyprus by recognizing the TRNC,” he said.
