Fancy Women’s Bike Ride

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus leg of the Fancy Women’s Bike Ride was held in Girne.

Women dressed in colourful outfits with decorated bikes toured Girne and the men supporting them pedalled alongside.

The Cyprus leg of the Fancy Women’s Bike Ride, which is an awareness event that started in Izmir, Türkiye and spread to many cities around the world was realized in Girne on Sunday.

It is held every year since 2013 on World Car-Free Cities Day.

Thousands of women all in fancy dress decorated their bikes and toured the Girne area in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

The event took place simultaneously in Türkiye and 32 other countries as well.

Before the start of the tour, the participants of the event took a group photo, giving messages to encourage the use of bicycles.

The Cyprus organiser of the Fancy Women Cycling Tour Nibel Tektan gave information about the history of the event and stated that the 5th edition of the event was held in the TRNC.

Tektan explained that the event was held as part of the World Car-Free Cities Day in order to draw attention to the fact that cycling is a part of daily life, to increase the visibility of women in society, and to push for bike safe cities.
