Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu said on Wednesday that the Turkish Cypriot side had no additional expectations from the UN in terms of its role in Cyprus.
Speaking to reporters in Washington D.C., Ertuğruloğlu said that the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres had arrived at the conclusion following the informal meeting in Geneva that there was no common ground between the two sides for the resumption of the Cyprus negotiations process.
“The Secretary-General however, instead of conveying this to the UN Security Council (UNSC), said he would be arranging a second meeting. However no such meeting has been arranged for the past six months,” he said.
The TRNC foreign minister also said that the Greek Cypriots will not be encouraged to work for a solution as long as the Greek Cypriot administration was recognised as the “Republic of Cyprus.”
He added that the non-recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) by the international community did not mean that the TRNC did not exist.
