The results of Sunday’s local elections were evaluated by government officials and the main opposition.

They wished the winning candidates all the best in the term ahead, expressing their support to all the local administrations.

Evaluating the results of Sunday’s elections, the leader of the National Unity Party (UBP)-Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that they will support all municipalities to ensure that the public receives the best service from the local administrations.

He said that the elections had passed on peacefully.

Üstel added that the UBP had not performed poorly in the election and that they will continue to work with their coalition partners for the welfare of the country.

Leader of the Democrat Party (DP)-Deputy Prime Minister-Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu said that the people had reflected their will to the ballot boxes.

“We shall evaluate the results before issuing any statements. We would like to congratulate the winning candidates,” he said.

The leader of the Rebirth Party (YDP)-Public Works and Transportation Minister Erhan Arıklı in his evaluation of the election results said that the people had given the government a message.

“The outcome of the election is not bad from the coalition’s alliance but we can’t talk of a success. We won eight municipalities but the loss we suffered in Gazimağusa and Girne has not been good,” he said, adding that they will be carrying out a more detailed assessment to determine a road map for the future.

The leader of the main opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Tufan Erhürman for his part said that they were pleased with the results of the election, winning 7 of the 18 municipalities, particularly in light of the fact that they ran against the coalition’s alliance in most places.

He said that they will be analyzing the results of the elections in detail.
