Grave of Orhan İsmail relocated to Lefkoşa Martyrs’ Cemetery

Martyr Orhan İsmail was laid to rest at the Lefkoşa Martyrs Cemetery on Friday with full military honours.

48 years after he was martyred in Yalova which is located in South Cyprus today, Orhan İsmail’s remains were laid in their final resting place in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

İsmail’s body had been hurriedly buried in a grave after he was martyred on July 20, 1974, the day of the Turkish Peace Operation.

Decades later, his grave was opened and his remains exhumed for identification before being handed over to his family.

Born in Kayakale village in Limassol District in 1950, Orhan İsmail who was a tailor by profession was martyred at the age of 24.
