Grave of Orhan İsmail to be relocated to Lefkoşa Martyrs’ Cemetery

Martyr Orhan İsmail will be laid to rest at the Lefkoşa Martyrs Cemetery on Friday with a military ceremony, the Society for Martyrs’ Families and Disabled War Veterans has announced.

The grave of martyr Orhan İsmail, who was buried in Yalova in Limassol District after being martyred on July 20, 1974, is being relocated to the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Lefkoşa following a request made by his family.

İsmail’s remains will be laid to rest with full military honours at the ceremony which will take place on Friday, August 12 at 10am.

According to a statement by the head of the Society for Martyrs’ Families and Disabled War Veterans Gürsel Benan, İsmail had been buried at the Turkish cemetery at Yalova (Episkopi), in Limassol District after being killed on the day of the Turkish Peace Operation.

His grave had been opened in 2018 with the request and under the observation of his family after which his remains were confirmed via DNA testing.

Born in Kayakale village in Limassol District in 1950, Orhan İsmail who was a tailor by profession was martyred at the age of 24.
