National Unity Party General Secretary Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu said on Monday that President Ersin Tatar would be explaining the Turkish Cypriot side’s new position to world leaders during his visit to New York.
Taking part on a program on BRT, Hasipoğlu evaluated the contacts to be carried out by President Ersin Tatar in New York.
Reminding that world leaders attended the United Nations meetings in New York every September, Hasipoğlu pointed to the importance of conveying the Turkish Cypriot side’s new road map in the best possible way.
Noting that the Turkish Cypriot side always supported a solution in Cyprus and never ran away from the negotiation table, Hasipoğlu said that the United Nations was well aware of the situation.
He also said that the Greek Cypriot administration did not want to share power or the island’s wealth with the Turkish Cypriot people.
“What we are really demanding is our inherit rights and our sovereignty. We are saying accept our sovereign equality, remove the isolations and embargoes that are being unjustly imposed on us, and accept our equal international status and then we will be ready to discuss everything. Once these are accepted, it is out of question for us to run away from the table. The Greek Cypriot administration is confused not us,” said Hasipoğlu.
Explaining that Turkey is the greatest supporter of the Turkish Cypriot people, Hasipoğlu touched upon the reopening of Maraş and said that reopening the fenced-off town was to the benefit of everyone in Cyprus.
