The Higher Committee for Infectious Diseases announced on Thursday that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is currently in the yellow category regarding Covid-19.
According to the committee, the requirement to wear face masks on public transport and at health facilities remains in place.
However, the measure has been relaxed at schools and other indoor areas where face masks are now recommended, not compulsory.
The latest relaxation by the Higher Committee for Infectious Diseases comes following a drop in weekly Covid-19 figures with the TRNC now in the yellow risk category.
A total of 236 new cases were detected and one death was reported over the past week following 6,533 tests carried out from September 7-13.
While persons are still required to wear a face mask while using public transport, visiting health facilities or the state prison, it is no longer mandatory for children to wear face masks in class or for people to use face coverings in indoor areas or spaces.
However, the country’s scientific advisory board still recommends that people wear face masks for their own safety and of others.
The isolation period for people who test positive for Covid-19 remains five days. These individuals will be required to wear a face mask for the following five days after their isolation ends.
The Higher Committee also pointed out that people who test positive on antigen tests are required to undergo PCR testing for confirmation.
