Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group continues contacts

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC)-Türkiye Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group is continuing its contacts in the Turkish capital Ankara.

As part of its contacts, the delegation held a meeting with the heads of the friendship groups of Turkic world countries.

The delegation headed by National Unity Party (UBP) MP Resmiye Canaltay on Wednesday paid a visit the headquarters of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) where it met with the party’s Deputy Chairman Binali Yıldırım.

The TRNC delegation also held a meeting with the Turkish Grand National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

The latest political developments in the TRNC and the Cyprus Issue were discussed during the meetings.

Later in the day, the group held a meeting with the heads of the friendship groups of Turkic world countries.

Speaking during the meeting, the head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Friendship Group Şamil Ayrım said that they wanted to see the TRNC join the Turkic States Organisation formerly known as the Turkic Council.

The head of the Türkiye-Kyrgyzstan Friendship Group Sabri Öztürk highlighted the importance of enhancing cooperation between Turkic and Islamic countries.

The head of the Türkiye-Turkmenistan Friendship Group İbrahim Aydemir also expressed the desire to see the TRNC join the group of Turkic states.

For her part, Resmiye Canaltay said that the TRNC strongly desired to improve and develop relations with other Turkic countries.
