Irrigation water on the way

Work has begun to lay pipes between the exit of the Güzelyurt and Mesarya Plain Water Tunnel and Kalkanlı.

Once the laying of pipes is finished water from the Geçitköy Dam that stores the water pumped from Turkiye will be used for agricultural purposes.

Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz announced that another important step had been taken to expand the country’s irrigation capabilities.

Pointing out that once water from Anatolia reaches the land diversity and productivity in agriculture will increase, Minister Oğuz also expressed his gratitude to Turkiye for its contributions to the project which includes irrigation for agricultural purposes, as well as drinking-potable water.

Within this framework of the project 3.8 km of pipes will be laid.

Currently 1.5 km of pipes have been delivered to our country, the remaining pipes will continue to arrive throughout the timeline of the project.

The first phase of which is planned to be completed in April 2023.

The construction of the agricultural irrigation tunnel, which is 5.6 km long and 4.20 meters in diameter, was completed in January 2022.
