Kıran: Turkish Cypriot’s rights must be reaffirmed for peace and stability

Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Yavuz Selim Kıran, in his speech at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mediterranean Conference, said that the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people, who are the partners of the island of Cyprus, must be reaffirmed for peace and stability.

During the online meeting hosted by Poland, Kıran also stated that the realization of the ‘Eastern Mediterranean Conference’ proposed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will be an important step for regional cooperation and noted that they expect all parties to support this proposal.

Kıran said, “As President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated before, establishing peace and stability in the Mediterranean is our fundamental desire.”

He also said that regional cooperation and solidarity are more important than ever for peace and stability in the Mediterranean region, which is facing challenges including pandemics irregular migrants and climate change.

Indicating that there should be dialogue, transparency and predictability in order to re-establish trust, security and stability in this region, Kıran said that they want to solve the problems through dialogue and international law.

Also touching upon the Cyprus problem, Kıran pointed to the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people and reiterated that their rights must be reaffirmed in order for peace and stability to be effective in the region.
