Those who were martyred in Küçük Kaymaklı during the struggle for the existence of the Turkish Cypriot people and Martyr Hüseyin Ruso, who was one of the symbols of the struggle, were commemorated.

The Küçük Kaymaklı martyrs and Martyr Hüseyin Ruso were commemorated with separate ceremonies on Sunday.

The first ceremony was held at the Küçük Kaymaklı Martyrs Monument.

Addressing the ceremony, President Ersin Tatar paid his respects to the martyrs on the 59th anniversary of their death.

“The genocides, the displacement and the pain we experienced are still fresh in our hearts,” he said.

Noting that the Turkish Cypriot people stood with their heads high and valiantly against the games played on them, Tatar said that Turkish Cypriots continued on their way with their own independent state.

“This is a great value and blessing for us. With the full support of our motherland, the Republic of Türkiye, we continue our struggle for a happier and more prosperous life in this country,” he said.

Underlining the importance of informing future generations on the pain, suffering and sacrifices made as well as preserving the existence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, President Tatar said, “if we have a state, we can live in peace, tranquillity and security, we owe it to those who made that sacrifice, especially to our martyrs.”
