A market selling only local products was opened in Çamlıbel on Sunday.
In speeches delivered during the inauguration of the market, attention was drawn to the importance of local production and it was emphasized that domestic production should be supported.
With the support of the Lefkoşa Program Office of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency together with the Association for the Beautification, Development and Sustenance of Çamlıbel District, the market was opened and will be active every Sunday where locally produced Cypriot products will be made available.
The market was inaugurated by President Ersin Tatar, Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre, Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu and Minister of Labour and Social Security Hasan Taçoy.
Delivering a speech during the ceremony Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu pointed out that the Çamlıbel region is very rich in terms of agriculture and production.
He also stated that the pandemic and the recent wars once again showed how important local production is and that it should be supported.
Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre for his part emphasized that domestic production should be encouraged and the value of the land should be known.
“If the Annan Plan had been accepted in 2004, this area would have been Mirtu, and not our land. There would be no Geçitköy dam here. It would have been under the control of the Greek Cypriots. So be aware of the value of the country and our land. We will produce on these lands. We saved this country with our blood, but we also need to produce. It should be crowned with the economy,” he said.
President Ersin Tatar for his part pointed to the importance of staking a claim in the Çamlıköy region and expressed the hope that in the near future there will be an increase in agricultural production in the area thanks to the water coming from Anatolia and the projects to be implemented by the government.
