Lütfi Özter, journalist, writer, teacher, trade unionist and a member of the Founding Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), who passed away, last week at the age of 78 was given a final farewell on Monday.
A ceremony was held for Özter at the Republic’s Assembly.
A final tribute was paid to Lütfi Özter on Monday in front of the Parliament building.
A journalist, writer, teacher and trade unionist, Özter had also served as the member of the founding assembly prior to the declaration of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
President Ersin Tatar, the Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Ali Murat Başçeri, several ministers and MPs attended the ceremony.
Following the reading out of his biography, eulogies were delivered by his son Osman Özter, the Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre and President Ersin Tatar.
His son Osman Özter spoke of how his father was a true patriot, dedicated to the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ struggle for existence.
Töre for his part said that the late Özter had dedicated his entire life to serving the Turkish Cypriot people, whether it was with his newspaper columns or his career as a trade unionist.
Delivering the final eulogy, President Ersin Tatar said that the late Özter was loved by all, not only for his sense of devotion to the cause but because his accomplishments throughout his life had touched everyone’s lives in a positive manner.
Following the ceremony in front of parliament, Özter was laid to his final resting place at the Lefkoşa cemetery following noon prayers.
