Marathon on the 2023 budget to begin

The debate marathon for the 2023 Financial Year Budget in parliament kicked off on Tuesday.

The discussion on the annual budget for next year which stands at ₺35.8bn is set to be completed on January 6.

All 8 days of the debate will be aired live on BRT’s second channel.

The debate on the state budget kicked off on Tuesday after the report prepared by the Economy, Finance, Budget and Planning Committee was read out by the head of the committee Resmiye Canaltay.

Discussions on the budget then proceeded with an opening speech delivered by Finance Minister Alişan Şan.

Parliament will be discussing the budget of the Presidency, Parliament and the Prime Ministry on Wednesday, December 28.

On Thursday, discussions will be held for the Audit Office, the Deputy Prime Ministry-Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment and the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation.

On Monday, January 2 parliament will be debating the budget of the Attorney General’s Office, the Civil Defence Organisation, the Ministry of Economy and Energy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The budgets of the Judiciary, the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Health will be discussed on Tuesday, January 3.

On Wednesday January 4, the budgets of the Ombudsperson’s Office, the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces and the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources will be taken up.

This will be followed the next day with the debating of the budgets of the Police General Directorate, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and the Civil Service Commission.

The final discussions on the budget will take place on next Friday, January 6 with the Ministry of Finance and State Revenues.

The discussions will be followed by a vote to approve the new budget.
