March 14 Medicine Day being marked in the TRNC

Today is the March 14 Medicine Day.

A series of events are being held to mark the day which is celebrated to recognize the contributions of physicians to individual lives and communities.

President Ersin Tatar, Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre, Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu and Health Minister Ali Pilli have all issued messages, praising doctors and health care workers for their efforts.

The Cyprus Turkish Doctors’ Association will be holding a separate reception on Monday evening at the Hidden Garden to celebrate the day.

President Ersin Tatar in his message underlined the importance of improving and upgrading working conditions of doctors and health care workers who work day and night for human health and happiness.

The Speaker of the Parliament Zorlu Töre in his message congratulated the physicians and health workers and said that the Turkish Cypriot people are forever indebted to their doctors and healthcare professionals.

“We entrust our lives and loved ones to doctors and healthcare professionals who made many sacrifices to fulfill their duties despite all difficulties” said Töre.

He stated that the service provided by physicians cannot be measured with any monetary reward and expressed his gratitude to the physicians and healthcare professionals for their dedication and sacrifices during the pandemic.

Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu in his message pointed out that doctors and health care workers made huge sacrifices during the pandemic.

He said that the government was working on legislation that would further improve the working conditions and rights of those working in the health sector.

Also issuing a message, Health Minister Ali Pilli said that Medicine Day was not only to celebrate the achievements of doctors and health care workers but also to draw attention to the problems being experienced in the health sector.

He praised the efforts of the health care workers during the pandemic, stating that the battle against Covid-19 was won with their contributions.

“The necessary steps will be taken to improve the public health sector’s infrastructure and to pass legislation pending in parliament,” Pilli said.
