The Turkish National Security Council has invited all countries to recognize the independence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) following the call made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan from the rostrum of the United Nations General Assembly for an “independent Cyprus.”

The Turkish National Security Council chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan convened on Wednesday.

A written statement was released after the four hour long meeting.

Türkiye will continue to defend the rights of Turkish Cypriots, the council asserted, while calling on the international community to recognize the independence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

In the statement, it was stated that the decision of the US to lift the arms embargo against the Greek Cypriot Administration was also evaluated at the meeting.

A call was made to reverse this decision, which would adversely affect the peace and balance in the Eastern Mediterranean and which is also against the spirit of alliance.

“Emphasizing that Türkiye will resolutely continue its multidimensional activities to defend the rights of the Turkish Cypriots, all countries were invited to recognize the independence of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus” the statement said.
