Minister Atun to address economic issues in Turkiye

Finance Minister Sunat Atun who is in the Turkish capital, Ankara will come together with the Turkish Treasury and Finance Minister Nureddin Nebati.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Finance, Atun’s agenda includes a strong economic program, effective financial support and development of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

In the statement it was noted that there has been an increase in financial difficulties and economic problems have followed, therefore Atun and Nebati will be kick starting the TRNC-Turkey talks today.

Making a brief statement about his Ankara visit, Atun thanked Nureddin Nebati, the Minister of Treasury and Finance of Turkiye for his interest in the problems of the TRNC.

Reminding that the TRNC budget is in serious trouble, Atun said that they are working for a financial structure that will not only pay salaries, but also ensure the continuation of employment in the private sector, provide the necessary support, and meet the needs of the country through tenders.

Explaining that the market is now more expensive due to foreign exchange rates and other international developments, Atun said, “Our biggest goal is to support our people in this difficult period by rapidly strengthening our financial structure.”

Noting that Turkiye is also aware of the source of the problems in the TRNC, Atun said that they will focus on short and medium-term financial support and a roadmap with Nureddin Nebati.

“Our goal is to quickly finalize the economic protocol. We are going through a difficult process due to the global pandemic, foreign exchange and the reflection of international problems,” he said.

Meanwhile on Tuesday Minister Atun will hold a variety of contacts while on his visit to Ankara.

He will meet with the Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez and the President of the Turkish Central Bank Şahap Kavcıoğlu.
