The Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz paid a visit to the lavender oil production facility run by the Tatlısu Municipality.

“We now have a modern facility in the TRNC which can process and extract oil from the country’s lavender harvest,” Oğuz said.

Agriculture and Natural Resources Minister Dursun Oğuz was in Tatlısu on Thursday to inspect the new lavender oil distillation facility set up and operated by the Tatlısu Municipality.

Oğuz was briefed on the distillation process of the lavender flowers by the Mayor of Tatlısu Hayri Orçan.

Later, the agriculture minister inspected the process of extracting oil from lavender harvested from fields in Tatlısu.

Speaking during the visit, Oğuz said that it was pleasing to see that the lavender saplings donated by the Turkish Ministry of Agricultural and Forestry in 2020 had finally started to produce flowers.

He said the aim was now to market the oil distilled from the flowers which was extremely precious and sought by the cosmetics industry.

Oğuz thanked Orçan for bringing this project to life and serving as a motivation for other growers.

The Mayor of Tatlısu Oğuz Orçan for his part said that they had launched a model implementation over a five dunam area with the promise of creating a facility that would offer economic gain.

“We have been successful in achieving this and we are very happy,” he said.

Orçan pointed out that lavender was a drought resistant plant which only required 30 minutes of watering every 10-15 days.

“This is an ideal plant for the climate and its economic value is great. We are able to sell this oil to Europe through the Green Line Regulation,” he added.
