The sewage and waste water problem at Long Beach in İskele was put on the table following an initiative undertaken by the Minister of Interior Ziya Öztürkler.
The establishment of a committee to deal with the issue was decided at the meeting.
Minister Öztürkler said that it was everyone’s responsibility to protect the safety of the public’s and İskele region’s health.
The committee agreed upon at the meeting held on Tuesday will be made up of experts and representatives from the İskele Municipality, the İskele District Office, the Cyprus Turkish Contractors’ Union, the Basic Health Services Department, the Environment Department, local businessmen and contractors.
Interior Minister Ziya Öztürkler said that the construction of a waste water treatment facility was in the books for the long term but that local resorts and facilities will be taking steps to ensure that the water they discharge will go through a process.
He said that he was very pleased to see the readiness of businessmen operating in the area to allocate financial and technical support to address the issue.
“Our duty will be to prepare the legal ground for the work. The İskele area waste water and sewage treatment facility project must be brought to life as soon as possible,” Öztürkler said.
The interior minister said that it was important to protect the coastline of İskele which had some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
