PACE Rapporteur visits Maraş

Italian MP Piero Fassino, who is a rapporteur for the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) held a series of contacts in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on Tuesday.

Within the framework of his contacts, the PACE Rapporteur visited the fenced off-town of Maraş and met with state and government officials.

Italian MP and PACE Rapporteur for Maraş Pierro Fassino crossed over to the TRNC on Tuesday for contacts with state and government officials.

Fassino’s first stop was the fenced-off town of Maraş in the morning.

He was accompanied by National Unity Party (UBP)MPs Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu and Özdemir Berova as well as the Republican Turkish Party MP Armağan Candan.

The Mayor of Gazimağusa İsmail Arter who was also present during the visit informed the rapporteur on the work carried out in the town’s public spaces.

Following his visit to Maraş, Fassino was received by President Ersin Tatar.

He also visited the Republic’s Assembly, the Cyprus Turkish Vakıflar (Foundations) Administration and the Immovable Property Commission (IPC).

According to a statement issued by the parliament, the PACE Rapporteur’s visit was important due to the report he would be preparing at the end of his contacts.
