The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Zorlu Töre has said that it is out of the question for the Turkish Cypriot people to abandon their state which they founded after great struggles and sacrifices.

Töre received on Friday a delegation from Türkiye’s National Defence University which is holding contacts in the TRNC.

Speaking during the visit, Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre praised the Turkish Armed Forces, stating that each and every soldier, irrelevant of his or her rank serving in the armed forces was a source of pride for both the Turkish nation and Turkish Cypriot people.

He pointed out that the TRNC had been founded through great pain and sacrifices which was why it was out of the question to abandon the state.

“The slogan one nation, three states is insufficient in defining the bond that exists between states that fall under the Turkish nation. We are one nation but we are many states,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of uniting all the Turkic states under the roof of the Turkic State’s Council, Töre said that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was leading this initiative.

Drawing attention to the support given to Greece by the European Union (EU) and the US, Töre said, “Greece had invaded Anatolia and now they are provoking Greece again. I hope they will not be bold enough to launch a new war. We do not want war. The Turkish nation remains committed to Atatürk’s motto of ‘Peace at Home, Peace in the World.’

Also referring to the call made by the Turkish president at the UN General Assembly for the recognition of the TRNC, the parliamentary speaker said that they fully supported Erdoğan’s call to the international community.

“We all know the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo’s goal to achieve ENOSİS or union with Greece. That is why we need to defend the Turkish presence on the island. It is our sacred duty to pass onto future generations what was handed down to us by our martyrs and veterans,” he said.
