The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Zorlu Töre has stressed that they will not allow any initiative that will lead to future generations re-experiencing the bitter experiences of the past.
The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Zorlu Töre issued a message to mark the December 21– 25 National Struggle and Martyrs Week.
In his message Töre stated that December 21 is marked with sadness as it is the date when the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo attacked the Turkish Cypriot people and the legitimate constitutional order with the aim of connecting the island to Greece through the force of arms and tyranny.
“Under all circumstances the Turkish Cypriot people have heroically resisted and have not given up their struggle for sovereignty, equality and freedom, even under the most trying conditions,” Töre said.
He stated that after the attacks of 21st of December 1963, which went down in history as Bloody Christmas, and after countless innocent Turkish Cypriots were massacred, thousands of them were forced to migrate, many Turkish Cypriot villages were burned down and they tried to force and condemn the Turkish Cypriot people to an inhumane lifestyle.
Commemorating those who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the national cause, Töre reiterated that they will never approve any initiative that will allow the future generations that live on this sovereign and independent land to experience the bitter experiences of the past.
