The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Zorlu Töre said that the republic’s assembly is a result of the resistance waged by the freedom fighters.
“The TRNC is entrusted to us by the martyrs. It is our duty to protect the TRNC,” he said.
The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Zorlu Töre received the İskele Branch of the Cyprus TMT Freedom Fighters Association headed by Ali Abdurrahmanoğlu and his accompanying delegation.
Speaking during the visit, the head of the Association Ali Abdurrahmanoğlu said that they are working voluntarily and that their aim, was to maintain the spirit of the struggle waged by the freedom fighters.
Stating that they are ready to accept any agreement that maintains the presence of the Turkish Armed Forces on the island, ensures the continuation of Türkiye’s active and effective guarantees and accepts two equal sovereign states on the island, Abdurrahmanoğlu highlighted the importance of Turkish Cypriot youth continuing the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle on the island.
Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre for his part emphasized that the TMT had played a very important role in the national struggle.
He said that Turkish Cypriots owed their freedom and independence to that struggle.
Noting that the Turkish Cypriot people had gained their freedom by giving many martyrs and enduring great pain and suffering, Töre reiterated that the TRNC had been entrusted to the people by the martyrs.
“It is our duty to protect the TRNC,” he said.
Emphasizing that the admission of the TRNC to the Organization of Turkic States as an observer member was a proud development, Töre expressed his view that this step will also bring about the recognition of the TRNC in the future.
