The persecution of the Turkish Cypriots was brought to the European Court of Human Rights.
Fahri Onbaşı, whose father was martyred by the Greek Cypriot terrorist organization EOKA, will continue the legal struggle he started in South Cyprus at the European Court of Human Rights.
Fahri Onbaşı, son of Turkish Cypriot Turgut Fahri, who was murdered by the EOKA terrorist organization in Cyprus in 1963, brought the legal struggle he started in the Greek Cypriot Administration to the European Court of Human Rights.
Fahri Onbaşı spoke to Anadolu Agency in his house in Lefkoşa, where his father lived and was taken by EOKA members in 1963.
Onbaşi explained the process he is going through to the agency.
“We started legal action so that we could find the perpetrators that murdered my father on the Greek Cypriot side, but no outcome had been achieved. On June 2nd, 2022, we forwarded the report of the Greek Cypriot Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office to the ECHR,” he said.
Onbaşı also stressed that they want the perpetrators to be found and punished.
“We do not know whether Strasbourg will discuss this by bringing it onto the agenda. Our goal in Strasbourg is to voice the oppression and injustice suffered by the Turkish Cypriots and for the Greek Cypriot state to receive the necessary punishment.”
Onbaşı also stated that the Turkish Cypriots were massacred in different villages by Greek Cypriots, regardless of their age or gender and said, “after the Cyprus Peace Operation in 1974, a certain phase was reached when the Turkish Cypriot community was relieved and there was no element of war. But when we look at it, the Greek Cypriots blame Türkiye even though it’s their own fault” said Onbaşı.
