Prime Minister Ersan Saner said on Wednesday that the current drop in daily Covid-19 cases was the result of serious effort and hard work.

“We set our goal based on science; we trusted the Higher Committee for Infectious Diseases and gave the necessary support. The numbers we see today point to a serious success. This is not a political success but one that society has achieved,” Saner told reporters during a visit to the Emergency Hospital in Lefkoşa which treats Covid-19 patients.

The prime minister praised the efforts of health care workers as well as the government.

“We are running the country without lockdowns, without stopping economic activity and without making any concessions from health,” he said.

Saner however pointed out that the pandemic was far from over and that the public had a responsibility towards adhering to Covid-19 measures such as practicing social distancing, wearing masks and exercising personal hygiene.

Prime Minister Ersan Saner said that the vaccination drive was continuing but that vaccine coverage was still below the desired level.

“Younger people should exercise sensitivity and should support efforts to vaccinate the population. No one should be left unvaccinated, he said.
