Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu has described his contacts in Ankara as constructive and meaningful.

Speaking to reporters after his meeting with the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Sucuoğlu said that he had found the opportunity to exchange views with the Turkish president on political, economic and social stability.

He had also met with Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay earlier in the day.

Sucuoğlu said that he had discussed in detail economic and financial issues as well as infrastructure projects.

“We would have experienced much bigger problems had we not passed the 2022 budget. We witnessed firsthand how correct a decision it was to pass the budget before the elections,” he added.

Prime Minister Sucuoğlu also said that he had held a very productive and warm meeting with Oktay.

“During both meetings I felt the strong support of motherland Turkey. We also expressed our determination on a two-state settlement in Cyprus based on sovereign equality,” he added.

Sucuoğlu said that he would be holding a few more contacts on Thursday before returning to the island.

He pointed out that Ankara shared the same expectations with the government regarding the future of the TRNC.

“The first goal is political stability which we will achieve after the January 23 elections. The second goal is economic stability and the third goal is social stability. People need to be happy economically,” the prime minister said, adding that his party once re-elected will be introducing sweeping reforms and taking radical decisions.

Touching upon projects currently underway, Sucuoğlu said that Turkey’s support in upgrading the TRNC’s infrastructure will continue.

“I would like to thank Mr Erdoğan and Mr Oktay for their warm hospitality. We will be intensifying our contacts in the future,” he said.
