Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu has said that his National Unity Party (UBP) fully supports President Ersin Tatar and his position in favour of a two-state solution in Cyprus.

He reminded that this policy was also fully supported by Ankara.

Touching upon the Cyprus Issue during an interview with the TAK news agency, Sucuoğlu said that he had difficulty in understanding why some political circles insisted on advocating for a federal settlement despite all the indicators that such a solution is impossible to achieve.

“It is obvious that this solution model is no longer an option, that such a model is a game of trickery and a loss of time. No one has the right to waste our time with such games and to force our people to migrate to other countries. That is why we are committed to further developing our state, achieving recognition for its sovereign equality and improving our economy,” he said.

The UBP leader and prime minister said that his government’s focus will be to create a TRNC which can stand on its own feet economically.

Sucuoğlu added that the Greek Cypriot side’s aim was to force Turkish Cypriots, through embargoes and isolation, to accept a federal settlement in Cyprus.
