Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu stated that Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş is identified with the history of the struggle in Cyprus with his leadership and statesmanship qualities that are appreciated all over the world.
Issuing a message to commemorate the late founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş on the 10th anniversary of his passing, Sucuoğlu emphasized that Denktaş devoted his life to the Cyprus cause and fought tirelessly with unwavering faith for the continuation of the existence of Turkish Cypriots on the island and for them to live freely.
“Rauf Raif Denktaş is the symbol and hero of the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ struggle for existence. He was an important politician who was always in close contact with the public and had played a major role in where our country is today,” said Sucuoğlu in his message.
Noting that the late founding president Denktaş had done all he could to protect the Turkish Cypriot people and thanks to his leadership the Turkish Cypriot people were able to establish their own state the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Sucuoğlu said thanks to his efforts the Turkish Cypriot people are now living freely as sovereign people under their own state.
“It is our duty to make his memory live on forever and to protect the state that he has entrusted to us,” said Sucuoğlu.
Meanwhile state and government officials have also issued messages praising the efforts of the late founding president Rauf Raif Denktaş.
