Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu has said that women, who played important roles in society, are a sole symbol of self devotion, sacrifice, endurance and solidarity.

In his message marking March 8 International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Sucuoğlu reminded that the day set by the UN aims at raising awareness for women’s economic, political and social achievements by enhancing their political and social awareness on the basis of human rights and equality.

Highlighting the importance of women for a society’s values, the premier stressed that the equality of women could and should not be limited to a single day.

“The successes achieved by women today in many fields, shines a light for the future of a country which is hungry for communal achievement and success. When looking at the distribution of duties in family life, it is an undeniable fact that the contribution and labour of women, particularly under the increasingly hardening of economic conditions, is much more than ours. Women in our society are highly educated, progressive minded and open to change. Our duty is to protect women’s rights and to pass legislation that emboldens them,” he said.

Sucuoğlu said that the prevention of physical, psychological and economic violence against women was among his government’s priorities.
