Prime Minister Ünal Üstel issued a message on the anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt in Türkiye and the Greek fascist coup carried out in Cyprus in 1974.
In his message, Üstel said, “July 15 marks a black day in the history of both Türkiye and Cyprus. Our hope is that such incidents will not happen again, and that the atmosphere of peace and security will not deteriorate.”
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel issued a message to mark the ‘15th of July Democracy and National Unity Day’ and the anniversary of the July 15 1974 fascist Greek coup.
Noting that the treacherous coup attempt by the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization, which wanted to enslave Türkiye, on July 15, 2016, was thwarted by the Turkish Nation and heroic Turkish security forces under the leadership of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Prime Minister Üstel underlined that the history of the Turkish nation is full of heroism.
Referring to the great Turkish leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s words that ‘Freedom is my character’, Üstel said, “On the 15th of July everyone protected their homeland, flag and country. The Turkish nation once again showed the whole world that they will not recognize a power above their own will. They showed what a nation can achieve and that Türkiye is impassable, as it was in the War of Independence.”
Pointing out that the Turkish Cypriot people share both the pain and joy of Motherland Türkiye, Üstel said, “It gives us additional strength to see that after the treacherous coup attempt of July 15, the Turkish Cypriot people and Türkiye continued with determination their struggle to protect their rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean and Cyprus.”
Reminding that the Greek Cypriots, who committed genocide against the Turkish Cypriots, staged a coup against Archbishop Makarios on July 15, 1974 with the support of the fascist Greek generals in order to realize their ideals of Enosis, Üstel stated that Türkiye intervened on the island on July 20, 1974 in order to protect the Turkish Cypriot people.
He added that the coup had failed and the Turkish Cypriots were saved from being annihilated.
“On July 20, 1974, peace and tranquillity came to the island. This is why Türkiye’s active and effective guarantees are of vital importance for the Turkish Cypriots. We will not return to pre 1974 conditions. With the strong support of our motherland, we will continue to strengthen our state in every field and to protect our rights. There are two sovereign equal states in Cyprus and the way to come to an agreement is to accept these facts” said Üstel in his message.
He also expressed the hope that such events in Türkiye and Cyprus will never be experienced again.
“I hope the environment of peace and trust will never be disrupted and we will reach better days thanks to the strong stance of our Motherland” he said.
