Prime Minister Ünal Üstel has said that the TRNC will continue to do whatever is necessary for the prosperity of the Turkish Cypriot people in cooperation with motherland Türkiye.
“We will tirelessly continue to work for the development and prosperity of the TRNC,” Üstel said in a message he issued on the occasion of the start of the new legislative year of the TRNC parliament.
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel who is recovering from eye surgery issued a written message to mark the opening of the new legislative year.
He said the government’s priority continued to be to address the country’s problems as well as take steps aimed at raising the prosperity of the people.
Pointing out that the world was currently going through a financial and economic crisis, Üstel said that they were doing all they could to mitigate the impact of this global crisis on the TRNC.
“We are acting with the awareness that the TRNC too is feeling the effects of the global crisis. We are formulating policy accordingly. We must all work in unity and solidarity to overcome these hardships, the premier said.
Üstel also highlighted the importance of motherland Türkiye’s support.
The prime minister vowed to introduce sweeping reforms that will remove obstacles before the TRNC’s economic development.
“These will include new projects implemented together with motherland Türkiye, but change also requires the support and unity of the public,” he said, criticizing the opposition’s resistance to reform and change.
Regarding foreign policy, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that the government will also continue to work for the promotion of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the international arena as a sovereign and independent state.
“The Turkish Cypriot people has never been a minority in Cyprus and will resist all efforts to reduce it into one,” Üstel said.
The prime minister concluded his message by pointing out that parliament continued to work during the summer break at a committee level, preparing the ground work for new legislation that will be brought before the assembly in the new term.
