Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that hospitalisations were quite low despite the recent increase in daily Covid-19 cases.

He reassured the public that there was no need to panic and that a great struggle was being waged against Covid-19.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel evaluated on Monday the country’s latest situation concerning the Covid-19 pandemic with the Minister of Health İzlem Gürçağ and the chief physicians of the state hospitals.

Visiting the Emergency Hospital previously used to treat Covid-19 patients at the height of the pandemic; Üstel was briefed on possible measures to be taken in the future should case numbers continue to climb.

Speaking during the meeting, Health Minister İzlem Gürçağ said that the number of Covid-19 patients receiving treatment in hospital was quite low compared to earlier this year.

“Only 6 patients were admitted on Saturday and four on Sunday,” she said.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel for his part said that the government attached great importance to health.

He pointed out that the TRNC, as other countries around the world, was feeling the economic impact of the pandemic.

He gave the reassurance to the public that there was no need to panic despite the uptick in cases.

“We only have 15-16 people being admitted to hospital despite the daily figures reaching 400. This is the outcome of our successful struggle against the virus,” Üstel added.

The prime minister said that the Emergency Hospital could be reconverted into a pandemic centre if the need emerged.
