President Ersin Tatar issued a message of condolence upon hearing of the death of Turkish soldier Atakan Çakır, who was wounded and martyred in Hakkari’s Şemdinli district.
In his statement, Tatar once again drew attention to the risks posed by the Greek Cypriot Administration-PKK relations regarding the security of the country and the region.
President Ersin Tatar issued a message of condolence after hearing of the death of Turkish soldier Atakan Çakır, who was wounded and martyred in Hakkari’s Şemdinli district.
In his message the president wrote “I have learned that the news of his death was delivered to his family in Lefke and Osmaniye by military officials. May god have mercy on his soul and I express my deepest condolences to his family. While I reiterate my belief that the heroic struggle carried out by motherland Türkiye against treacherous terrorist organizations for years will result in greater success with each passing day, I want to draw attention to the risks posed by the Greek Cypriot Administration-PKK relations, which have come to the fore again as the Greek Cypriot administration has allowed the PYD, the political arm of the PKK to open a representative office in South Cyprus and this poses a security risk for the country and the region”.
Pointing out that the latest example of separatist terrorist organization activities, which are increasing day by day in South Cyprus, was experienced yesterday, President Tatar said “A group of 50 members of the Kurdish People’s Assembly of the Greek Cypriot Administration, in which the supporters of the separatist terrorist organization in the Greek Cypriot Administration are organized, were sent to Trodos in order to celebrate the “so called 15th of August Resurrection Day”, which symbolizes the first action carried out by the PKK and is celebrated every year.”
“It was discovered that during the event at the Trodos picnic grounds PKK, HPG, YPG and YPJ flags were unfurled and pictures of terrorist organization ringleaders Abdullah Öcalan and Mahsum Korkmaz were on display” wrote Tatar in his message.
“I want to call on the Greek Cypriot administration to abandon its approach that only serves to fuel tensions in the region and positions terrorism as a secret “war tool” said Tatar.
Prime Minister Ünal Üstel also issued a message of condolence to martyr Atakan Çakır’s family by writting that “this tragic event has deeply saddened us as the Turkish Cypriot people and especially his family and relatives living in Lefke. I wish God’s mercy on our martyred son, my condolences to his grieving family and relatives, the Turkish Armed Forces and the entire Turkish nation.”
