President Ersin Tatar has said that that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will continue its honourable struggle with the courage it has received from the observer status granted to the Organisation of Turkic States.

“This is a day of pride and day of joy for us,” said Tatar in a statement issued by the Office of the President.

President Ersin Tatar on Friday welcomed the decision by the Organisation of Turkic States to grant observer status to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

“Our state has earned a status with its constitutional name for the first time. This historic development constitutes an additional source of pride,” he said.

Describing the unanimously approved decision as a milestone in efforts to promote the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ international recognition, Tatar thanked the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and all members of the organisation.

“The TRNC’s inclusion in an international organisation is of separate importance in itself. Since my election, I have been advocating a new vision that will save our people from the inhumane and unjust embargoes that have deprived us of our sovereignty and international status. The struggle which gained momentum with the historic call made by the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his address at the 77th UN General Assembly for the official recognition of the TRNC will continue with the encouragement provided by this latest development,” he said.
