President Ersin Tatar met with political parties that have won the right to enter the Republic’s Assembly at the presidential palace today.
President Tatar first came together with a delegation from the Rebirth Party. He then met with the Peoples’ Party, Democrat Party, Republican Turkish Party and the National Unity Party respectively.
Speaking after his meeting with the president, the leader of the Rebirth Party Erhan Arıklı said that they discussed the election results and exchanged views regarding the road map that may be taken.
“Our country’s situation is clear. We need a powerful government. It looks as though there may be a three party coalition. We are going through a difficult time and radical decisions need to be taken. These decisions cannot be taken with a government that has 27 deputies” said Arıklı and added that if a proposal is put towards them then they will carry out an evaluation with their party as they are ready to do whatever is necessary for the country.
The President came together with the Peoples’ Party delegation next.
Making a brief statement after the meeting Kudret Özersay said that they exchanged views with the president regarding the election process but that no official vision regarding the government had been put forward.
He also said that the Peoples’ Party executive committee would be convening to discuss the election outcome.
The leader of the Democrat Party Fikri Ataoğlu for his part thanked President Tatar for organizing a meeting with political parties that have won seats in parliament so quickly, as the peoples’ expectations must be met.
Ataoğlu said that the Democrat party will do all it can to overcome the problems experienced by the people and the country.
The president came together with the Republican Turkish Party delegation at noon.
Speaking after his meeting with the president, the CTP leader Tufan Erhurman said that as the Republican Turkish Party they want the President to task a party with setting up the government as soon as possible as the country is in a major crisis and is in need of a government.
Lastly the President received the National Unity Party delegation.
Making a statement after the meeting concluded Prime Minister Sucuoğlu said that he had carried out a very fruitful meeting with the president as they had discussed the outcome of the election and the next government to be formed.
Reminding that after the election results are published in the Official Gazette the swearing in ceremony will be realized at parliament ten days later and then he will begin carrying out official visits, Sucuoğlu said that they will not sit idly during this time and will continue holding preliminary meetings with political parties.
“After the swearing in ceremony that will be realized on the 6th or the 7th of February, the president will give the orders to form the next government. Hopefully in the first half of February the Council of Ministers will be presented to parliament and we can continue to work quickly” said Sucuoğlu.
Explaining that as a party they have yet to decide on a government formation, Sucuoğlu said that they will hold meetings with the 4 parties and added that all parties have different views regarding the world and the Cyprus issue.
“Politics is an art of finding solutions” said Sucuoğlu and added that stability is a must when forming the new government.
