Today is December 5, International Women’s Rights Day.
President Ersin Tatar, who issued a written message marking the occasion, stated that it was everyone’s duty and responsibility to produce inclusive solutions to all the problems, especially violence, women face.

Pointing out that December 5 was the day when the socioeconomic, political and legal rights that women should have equally with men were brought to the agenda, and the struggle and solidarity of women with the desire to live more humanely was reinforced, Tatar stressed that it was everyone’s duty to focus on the pending demands of women, who are the guarantee of a bright future for the state.
“On such meaningful days as today, we have an important opportunity to take concrete and sustainable steps to increase the participation of our women in all areas and fields, from politics to the economy, from culture and arts to all decision-making mechanisms. It is an historical responsibility to remember and remind the undeniable contribution women have made from the years of social struggle to the proclamation of our sovereign state and to the present day” the President said.
Stressing the importance of creating more women’s shelters so that victims of domestic violence can feel safe, by taking steps to prevent all kinds of physical and psychological violence as well as harassment of women, the president said he was determined to do all in his authority granted to him by the Constitution to find inclusive solutions to all the problems faced by women, especially violence.
“With the awareness of the critical role that all our women play in the process of creating a stronger TRNC in every field, in the light of the importance given by the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk to all women, I stress that the future of our state, which continues to develop socially, is secure thanks to our women,” President Tatar added.
