President Ersin Tatar stated that their aim is for Turkish Cypriot athletes to participate in races under the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) flag and added that this is their god given right.

The President made the statement while he received the Mayor of Beyoğlu Haydar Ali Yıldız.

While receiving the visiting Mayor from Türkiye, President Ersin Tatar noted that the Turkish Cypriots are exposed to many obstacles and injustices, and stated that due to the contacts that are being carried out, Turkish Cypriot athletes are able to participate in various races thanks to Motherland Türkiye.

“Our main goal is for our athletes to participate in races under the TRNC flag. That is our god given right.  Our language, religion, customs and traditions are our own wealth,” Tatar said.

He reminded that Turkish Cypriots had been dispersed across the whole island, living under oppression until they were liberated on the morning of July 20, 1974, with the arrival of Motherland Türkiye on the island.

“We, the Turkish Cypriots were saved and were able to reach our present status,” Tatar added.
