President Ersin Tatar stated that Maraş is one of the most valuable regions of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
President Ersin Tatar made the statement when he received the head of the Maraş Unity and Solidarity Association Ufuk Özel and his accompanying delegation.
Speaking during the visit President Tatar stated that the government will take action for the further development of Maraş, which gained a new dimension with its opening and added that the area is now recognized by the world and has become a brand.
Stating that Maraş is both a political step and a part of the two-state policy, Tatar noted that although the Turkish Cypriot side had shown good intentions towards an agreement on a federal basis, the other side did not take any steps and rejected all international proposals including the Annan Plan under the perception that the Maraş area would be reinstated to them one day.
“This perception must change” said Tatar.
“The new policy is that there can be an agreement with the cooperation of two separate states living side by side in Cyprus” said Tatar and added that over 400,000 people have visited Maraş so far.
“I don’t want to use the word ‘Closed Maraş’ because it has now been reopened. Anyone can enter the area, including foreigners. Public areas, beaches and residential areas can be visited. Maraş is one of the most valuable regions of the TRNC and is very valuable” said Tatar.
“Now, it is an area that has become recognised by the world, it will develop further and thrive, become more liveable and various housing projects can be developed. Improving Maraş will add value to its value” said Tatar.
