Pr. Tatar receives Sharma and Lillie

President Ersin Tatar received the UK’s Cyprus Resolution Process Coordinator Ambassador Ajay Sharma and British High Commissioner Stephen Lillie on Tuesday at the presidential palace.

While the attacks are continuing by Russia towards the Ukraine, the discussions at the presidency focused on the latest developments that are taking place in the region and the situation regarding Cyprus.

Meeting with the UK’s Cyprus Resolution Process Coordinator- Ambassador Ajay Sharma and British High Commissioner Stephen Lillie, President Tatar expressed the hope that Russia will end its attacks and establish peace in the region.

Expressing his hope for the establishment of peace by operating the dialogue mechanism, President Tatar said that human tragedies caused by war must end.

During the meeting, views on the Cyprus issue were also exchanged.

President Tatar said that he was ready to start official negotiations if the sovereignty and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriots are accepted and reiterated the position of the Turkish Cypriot side regarding the solution model based on the cooperation of two sovereign equal states.

Stating that the Greek Cypriot side was unjustly made a member of the European Union after the 2004 Annan Plan referendum, President Tatar criticized the unjust isolations imposed against the Turkish Cypriot people.

He also underlined his belief that post-Brexit Britain can implement more flexible policies in its relations with Turkish Cypriots by removing the direct trade ban and isolations imposed against the Turkish Cypriot people.
