President Ersin Tatar evaluated the Cyprus issue and the latest developments in the Eastern Mediterranean during a program he attended via Skype on Friday morning.
Evaluating the Greek Cypriot leader Nicos Anastasiades’ latest proposal on confidence building measures, he said that they did not receive such a proposal yet adding that it was out of question to lean towards this proposal.
The President also stressed that it was not possible to make concessions on rights stemming from the 1960 Agreement.
“The Greek Cypriot side which sees itself superior to us and receives support from the EU is continuing with its manner in the Eastern Mediterranean. Despite Turkiye, the Greek Cypriot side wants to possess all natural resources” Tatar noted.
Referring to relations with Turkiye, the President said that there has never been such harmony in cooperation between the two countries.
Stating that the armament and military investments of South Cyprus were useless, Tatar noted that Turkiye in every occasion stressed that it will not allow the Turkish Cypriot people’s rights to be usurped.
Stressing that the co-existence of two sovereign equal states was possible, the President said “we are ready if the Greek Cypriot side wants to negotiate with us.”
Touching upon the Maraş issue, Tatar said “we authorized the Immovable Property Commission for the return of properties to the previous owners there. We do not have any intention to perform any unlawful action. This is the reason why the Greek Cypriot side is reacting so harshly. The Greek Cypriots are visiting the region. It is the right policy to make the region useful for humanity and carry out necessary infrastructure work there. We will continue to pursue this policy.”
