President Ersin Tatar sent a letter to Liz Truss, who was elected as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), congratulating her on her new position and wishing her success.
In his letter, President Tatar called for necessary steps to be taken to alleviate the difficulties in trade and travel between the two countries.
“We expect a positive contribution to the fulfilment of the promises made to lift the isolations against the Turkish Cypriot people,” he said.
President Ersin Tatar congratulated the new British Prime Liz Truss on behalf of the TRNC and Turkish Cypriot people, expressing his readiness to work together to develop relations with the United Kingdom.
Tatar also stated that he was ready to work to alleviate the difficulties faced by approximately 300,000 Turkish Cypriots living in the United Kingdom and approximately 15,000 British citizens living in the TRNC regarding trade and travel between the two countries.
Touching upon the Cyprus issue, President Tatar shared in his letter the Turkish Cypriot’s position that an agreement in Cyprus should be based on sovereign equality and acceptance of the equal international status of the two sides.
Tatar also expressed his hope that a positive contribution will be made by the UK to the fulfilment of the promises made to the Turkish Cypriot people to end the isolations on trade, travel, sports and culture.
