President Ersin Tatar on Monday highlighted the importance of strengthening relations between Turkish Cypriots and Turkey.

Speaking at the Kütahya Health Sciences University on Monday, Tatar said that a solution in Cyprus could only be possible through the cooperation of two co-existing sovereign and independent states.

He noted that this new policy was being supported by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Turkish government.

Stating that a federal solution was no longer possible in Cyprus, Tatar said that the Greek Cypriot side’s goal was to unite the island with Greece.

He added that there was no change in their mentality.

Touching upon the isolations being imposed on the Turkish Cypriots, he expressed the need for further strengthening the TRNC’s economy.

Stating that the TRNC grew stronger with Turkey’s support and with its universities, tourism investments and industrial and agricultural activities, he called on the Turkish businesspeople to invest and contribute to the growth of the TRNC economy.

Meanwhile, President Tatar also met with Turkish Peace Operation war veterans residing in Kütahya.

Speaking there, the President noted that the region’s history was changed with the arrival of Turkish forces in Cyprus on July 20, 1974.

“The Turkish Cypriot People achieved its independence and freedom. We know how important the continuation, future and security of the TRNC is while we continue on our path as a great nation defending our rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean,” Tatar said.

As part of his contacts in Turkey, the president also visited the province of Akşehir.
